Mississippi Barbell

The Source for Weightlifting in Mississippi

Mississippi Barbell, formerly known as Mississippi Weightlifting Club, is a strength sport nonprofit for the state. It was the first USA Weightlifting sanctioned Club in the Mississippi and remains the largest.

We have two locations: (1) our olympic weightlifting headquarters in Brandon, MS located near the metro Jackson, MS area and (2) our satellite olympic weightlifting location Mississippi Barbell Gulf Coast located in Gulfport, MS near Biloxi, Ocean Springs, Saucier, and Bay St. Louis.

Our organization trains and promotes Olympic weightlifting and powerlifting. We serve as a resource for anyone looking to compete in meets and for anyone who wants to improve their lifts for sports performance. Mississippi Barbell is open to all levels of lifters from any walk of life, at any age, who want to become better athletes and have fun along the way. We want to sharpen ourselves and all interested Mississippi athletes competitively. In order to be the best, you have to train with the best. And that is exactly what Mississippi Barbell aims to be.

We are located within Reservoir Crossfit at 131 Builders Square, Brandon, MS and within Gulfport Crossfit at 300 Creosote Road, Gulfport, MS.

RevFit Weightlifting Open Meet Registration

Revolution Fitness and Mississippi Barbell are proud to announce the RevFit Weightlifting Open, the first-ever USA Weightlifting sanctioned meet in Hattiesburg, to be held on March 3, 2018, at Revolution Fitness (14 Lamar Blvd, Hattiesburg, MS).

As always, our events are open to all ages, state residencies, and abilities. This is a great event for first time athletes, those looking for more platform experience, or seasoned athletes looking for a qualifying total for a national event.

Divisions: Athletes may choose to register in a USAW or a non-USAW division.

Athletes electing to compete in a USAW division MUST have a current USAW membership. Memberships can be purchased at https://webpoint.usaweightlifting.org. Memberships will not be sold at the meet and therefore must be purchased prior to competition.

Athletes electing to compete in the non-USAW division will lift alongside USAW competitors, but will NOT have their results submitted to USAW for regional or national event qualification.

Lifts Tested: This Olympic weightlifting and USA Weightlifting sanctioned event consists of three attempts at the snatch and three attempts at the clean and jerk.

Weight Classes: All weight classes are in kilos. The following tables are based on USA Weightlifting’s official conversion chart (https://www.teamusa.org/USA-Weightlifting/Weightlifting101/Weight-Classes).

Our registration form is based on and uses the information from this chart. Registering for the correct weight class falls on your shoulders, but if you have questions that aren't answered by the chart, please ask us.

Awards: The following awards will be given:

·       1st-3rd in Non-USAW division (based on Sinclair formula)

·       1st-3rd in USAW Youth division (based on Sinclair formula)

·       1st-3rd in USAW Masters division (based on Sinclair formula)

·       1st-3rd in USAW Junior division

·       1st-3rd in USAW Open division

·       1st-3rd in each male & female weight class*

·       Best Overall Lifter*

(*Note: only competitors in USAW Junior and USAW Open divisions are eligible for these awards.)

Attire: Singlets are suggested but not required for any division. If not wearing a singlet please ensure we can see the creases in your elbow or knee for judging purposes. Exposed midriffs or singlet straps not worn over the shoulders are not allowed pursuant to USA Weightlifting rules. Example: A short sleeve shirt and spandex tights or loose shorts above the knee are acceptable non-singlet attire. This is not an exhaustive list of what can be worn. This is only one example.

Registration Limit: Registration is capped at the first 30 lifters to register and pay. The pricing tier listed below does not guarantee spots will remain open at those dates.

Early Bird- $55 – through February 5, 2018

Price Saver- $70 – February 6 through February 19, 2018

Late Registrant- $85 – February 20 through March 3, 2018

Start List: Preliminary start list will be made available via Facebook event page and email to registrants on February 21, 2018. It will be subject to change dependent on late registrants. NOTE: Typically, all females lift first with weigh ins at 7 am and lifting at 9.

Weigh-Ins: Weigh-ins are only on the day of the event. They begin two hours before your start time and only last one hour.

For example, if you lift at 9am, your weigh-in time is from 7-8am. If you do not weigh in by 8:01am, you will have missed your weigh-in window.

If you fail to make your weigh-in on time, you will still lift in the competition, but your results will not be submitted to USAW (even if you signed up for the USAW division). You will compete in the non-USAW division for a potential medal.

Spectator Tickets: Spectator tickets are $5. They can be purchased at the door on the day of the event (cash or check made payable to Mississippi Barbell Inc only).

Only registered athletes and one coach of record are allowed in without payment (coaches if you have multiple athletes and need assistant coaches please email us before the event). We have limited space and want everyone to have equal access and opportunities in the warm up area.

Volunteers do not have to procure a ticket. A list of all names will be kept at the entrance. Please do not disrespect our volunteers if they ask you for registration or for you to show your ticket---they are doing their jobs.

Volunteer Opportunities: If you'd like to volunteer to help at the event (bar loading, table working, front door, refereeing) please email us at msweightliftingclub@gmail.com. We always need more referees and the test is free. More information can be found at http://www.teamusa.org/USA-Weightlifting/Referees/Referee-Clinic-Video. All volunteers working the tables, conducting weigh-ins, or refereeing MUST be USAW members (cheaper rates apply via USAW if you are not registering as an athlete--see previous link in Membership portion).

Consumption of alcohol at the event site during the event (which includes weigh ins through awards) is strictly prohibited pursuant to USAW rules. It will result in your immediate disqualification even if you have already lifted. Your results will NOT be sent to USAW.

*** All sales are final. There will be no refunds awarded for any reason (including missing weigh ins or injury). Meet registration cannot be transferred to another individual. ***

*** By registering for this event, you are acknowledging you have read this page in its entirety along with USAW rules, regulations, and by laws, understand what it says, and agree to abide by that which is stated**
